I am married to a beautiful, charming, intelligent, loving, and sensible wife. I am an uncle to a delightful niece and two growing and fascinating nephews. I am the keeper, best friend, and servant of two loyal rescue dogs.
I love the outdoors. I have climbed Half Dome and Mount Whitney, I have hiked on a glacier in Chamonix, France and climbed Preikestolen and Gaustatoppen in Norway. I have bicycled through the Alps, Pyrenees, and Dolomites as well as most of the western states.
My wife and I are eco-friendly. We recycle, make our own compost, and grow our own herbs and tomatoes. I recently refitted our home with compact fluorescent eco-bulbs to minimize our energy consumption. My wife is vegetarian. Our dogs are carnivores. I eat meat and fish occasionally.
I am a foodie and love to play in the kitchen. I have a pastry bag, rolling pin, wire whisk, mandoline, and an ice cream machine and know how to use them. Like photography, the culinary arts are a fascinating combination of technology, technique, culture, and art. I have some culinary training and enjoy practicing my art and entertaining my family and friends.
I love gardens and enjoy learning about plants. I love trees – redwoods, dogwoods, birch, weeping willows, deciduous magnolias, and Japanese maples. I love rhododendrons, hydrangeas, lavender, calla lilies, and wisteria. I prune my own Japanese maples and have visited Japanese gardens in Japan, California, and Oregon.
I am passionate about travel and culture. I was born in England to an English Mum and a Norwegian Dad. I grew up in San Francisco and have lived in the San Francisco Bay Area (east bay, wine country, peninsula) for most of my life. I have traveled to more than 30 countries – Europe, Asia, Middle East, Africa, Latin America – and am thankful for all that I have learned from the people of the world.
I photograph weddings because I love them.
Let's hope it gets good ones soon!
